Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. El-Sayed Kandil, President of the University, and Prof. Dr. Walid El-Sarougy, Vice President for Community Service and Environmental Development, and under the auspices of Prof. Dr. Afaf Salah Abdel-Mohsen, Acting Dean of the Faculty, and the leadership of Prof. Dr. Zeinab Hussein Ali, Vice Dean for Community Service and Environmental Development, and as part of the Faculty of Nursing’s commitment to preparing qualified nursing cadres capable of responding to emergency situations within healthcare institutions, the Faculty organized a training workshop titled “Crisis and Disaster Management and Methods of Response.”
The workshop was delivered by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Sahar Mahmoud Sayed Ahmed, Director of the Crisis and Disaster Management Unit at the Faculty of Nursing – Helwan University.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness among students, staff, and faculty members about the concepts of crisis and disaster management, in addition to training them on preparedness skills and rapid response in critical situations. It also focused on enhancing participants’ ability to develop effective plans for managing health and community emergencies.
The workshop content covered several important topics, including the definition and types of crises and disasters—natural, health-related, industrial, and environmental. It also addressed the stages of crisis management, which include preparedness, response, recovery, and the importance of future mitigation. Emphasis was placed on the role of nursing in confronting disasters within healthcare and community institutions, as well as the importance of prior planning and forming emergency teams within faculties and hospitals. The workshop further highlighted the significance of informed leadership and effective communication during crises.
This workshop represents an important step toward achieving the Faculty’s goal of enhancing the ability of students and staff to effectively face emergency challenges, thereby contributing to improved crisis and disaster response capabilities.
